GST Collections Rise By A Whopping 40 Per cent In J&K, 128 Per Cent In Arunachal Pradesh In December 2019

Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections in the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) witnessed a massive rise of 40 per cent in the bygone month of December to reach a figure of Rs 409 crore, reports Financial Express.

Several other States and UTs registered a robust growth in the collections with Arunachal Pradesh leading among all with a stellar 124 per cent rise. Fellow northeast State of Nagaland reported a rise of 88 per cent in collections, followed by Manipur and Mizoram which registered a rise of 64 and 60 per cent respectively.

Meanwhile, in the overall value terms, State of Maharashtra led the GST collections by shoring up Rs 16,530 crore which was a solid 22 per cent increase over the figure achieved a year ago in the same month.

It should be noted that the Government of India is duty-bound by Constitution to compensate the States for any shortfall if the GST collections fail to meet a 14 per cent growth.
