Gujarat: Over 70,000 Saplings To Be Planted Across Surat City To Celebrate PM Modi's 70th Birthday

On the occasion of Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi's 70th birthday, the Surat city's civic body, and several associations and business groups will be planting 70,000 saplings across the city by 17 September, reports Asian News International (ANI).

The initiative to plant 70,000 saplings began 15 days ago, according to Surat city's Deputy Mayor Nirav Shah.

Shah said, "The PM always urged everyone to celebrate his birthday by doing an activity which will be beneficial to the people. So this time we have come up with the idea to plant 70,000 saplings across the city which will increase the oxygen and will be beneficial for the future generation."

Shah added that he expects city civic body would complete the plantation of 70,000 saplings by 16 September itself, post which, on 17 September more saplings will be planted which will be beneficial for the residents of the city.

According to the report, the Surat city has taken up the initiative to plant saplings in a large number to turn the city greener and pollution-free with various business groups and associations have also joined the plantation drive.
