‘Gujarat Still The Leader In Petro Investments’: Petronet LNG To Invest Rs 2,100 Crores To Expand Dahej Terminal

Petronet LNG Limited plans to invest Rs 2,100 crore in a bid to expand its terminal capacity from 15 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 20 MTPA in Dahej, Gujarat reports Mint.

The expansion project will be completed in the next two to three years. Of the Rs 2,100 crore, Rs 1,300 crore would be utilised in expanding the Dahej terminal, whereas the remaining Rs 800 crore would be utilised for building LNG storage tanks.

Petronet LNG built India’s first LNG receiving and regasification terminal at Dahej and operates another terminal in Kochi. The terminal in Kochi has a capacity of 5 MTPA. The company is also reportedly building a third terminal, at Gangavaram, Andhra Pradesh

“The investment proposal by Petronet LNG shows that Gujarat is still a leader when it comes to fresh investments,” said an official of the Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB). Reports recently have suggested that the Shapoorji Pallonji group and Swan Energy have plans to set up LNG terminals in Gujarat.

The natural gas consumption in India has increased by 17.1 per cent during FY19 (April-October period), according to a Care Ratings report.“With the proposed new plants which will be set up on the east coast of India, the disparity in the supply of LNG should diminish,” added the report.

India mainly imported LNG from Qatar (47 per cent), Nigeria (17 per cent), the US (6 per cent), Angola (6 per cent) and Australia (6 per cent) in the current fiscal.
