India’s total installed solar photovoltaic power capacity has crossed 25 gigawatts (GW) according to Mercom India Research, The Hindu Business iLine has reported. This includes both rooftop and large-scale power projects. India had crossed 20 GW capacity in January 2018.

The last five gigawatts of solar power has been installed in the last seven months as several projects became operational. India aims to install 100 GW power by 2022.

“India achieving 25 per cent of its installation target is significant. However, achieving the remaining 75 GW of the target by 2022 looks daunting and will require a huge push to make this happen,” CEO of Mercom Capital Group Raj Prabhu said in a statement.

Large-scale project pipeline for the year 2019 is likely to be weak because of the slowdown in auction activity in the first half of 2018. Uncertainty over the safeguard duty is the main reason for the slowdown in solar power auction activity.
