Haryana Assembly Polls: Stone Pelting, Clashes Reported In Muslim Majority Areas Of Nuh

A scuffle and stone pelting between supporters of the Congress and the BJP was reported from Nuh town around 8.45 am on Monday (21 October) while voting was in full swing for Haryana Assembly elections, an official said.

Muslim-dominated Nuh district in Mewat has three Assembly constituencies -- Nuh, Ferozpur Jhirka, and Punhana, and about five lakh voters. Nuh has close contest between BJP leader Zakir Hussain and Congress leader Aftab Ahmed. Both have represented the seat in the Haryana Assembly in the past.

Nine per cent turn out of over 1.83 crore voters in Haryana was reported in the first three hours of polling to elect 90 members of the state Assembly, officials said.

"The voter turnout was 9 per cent by 10 am," an electoral official told IANS after polling started at 7 am across the state.

The highest turnout was in Muslim-majority Punhana seat (19 per cent), while the lowest was in Panchkula (two per cent).
