Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (8 July) expressed deep grief over the demise of former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh and Congress leader Virbhadra Singh.
Virbhadra Singh, 87, passed away early Thursday at the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMCH) in Shimla after a two-month long battle with post-Covid complications, doctors said.
Virbhadra Singh tested positive for Covid-19 twice in two months -- on 12 April and 11 June.
He had suffered from heart attack on 5 July and was in the critical care unit of the IGMCH.
IGMCH Senior Medical Superintendent Janak Raj said that Virbhadra Singh died at 3.40 am. He was the sitting legislator from Arki in Solan district, once the pocket borough of the BJP.
In a tweet, PM Modi said, "Shri Virbhadra Singh Ji had a long political career, with rich administrative and legislative experience".
