Electric two-wheeler maker Hero Electric has partnered with Sun Mobility to sell electric two-wheelers equipped with Bengaluru-based startup's swappable battery technology, reports Economic Times.
Under the partnership, the two companies will begin selling jointly-developed electric vehicles (EVs) in the coming three months with a target of about 10,000 electric two-wheelers by the end of this year.
“Battery Swapping is emerging as a good catalyst for the exponential growth of the e-two-wheelers in India,” Hero Electric CEO Sohinder Gill was quoted in the ET report as saying.
Gill added that battery swapping "reduces the upfront cost of buying a two-wheeler, eliminates the range anxiety and the apprehensions about the useful life of the batteries".
He that this technology especially makes sense for business-to-business (B2B) customers as the swapping stations can be placed in the working zones for riders. The technology will allow them to run their bikes without having to wait to recharge their batteries.
Sun Mobility currently has 70 battery swapping stations across 15 Indian cities. These facilities are presently used by electric three-wheeler operators. The company has also tied up with Ashok Leyland and Piaggio.
