Inspired from Eurostar, the undersea high-speed train between London and Paris, India is likely to have its own train between UAE’s Fujairah and Mumbai. To boost the connectivity between the two nations, National Advisor Bureau is planning to undertake the project.
Khaleej Times quoted National Advisor Bureau’s Managing Director Abdulla Alshehhi as saying, “This is a concept. We plan to connect Indian city of Mumbai with Fujairah through ultra-speed floating trains. The project aims to boost bilateral trade. There will be export of oil to India from Fujairah port and import of excess water from Narmada River, north of Mumbai. In addition, other GCC partners can also improve export and import.”
The length of the railway line will be more than 2,000 km. Apart from transiting passengers, the line will be used to export oil and exchange goods as well.
Economic Times reported that Maglev was the most likely to be used, since it works on the magnet repulsion system, without causing too much friction. As of now, only China and Japan have Maglev trains. Other countries such as UK, US are still planning them.
