The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund on Wednesday (14 November) named sprint runner and Asian Games gold medallist Hima Das as the country's first ever India Youth Ambassador, reported Mathrubhumi.
The world organisation announced the woman athlete’s name from Assam, also known as 'Dhing Express' in a tweet on Wednesday (14 November) evening coinciding with Children’s Day, which commemorates the birth anniversary of late Jawaharlal Nehru.

“I’m honoured to be chosen as Unicef India’s Youth Ambassador, and I hope I will be able to inspire more children to follow their dreams,” Das responded.
“I want for every child, regardless of their background, gender or ability, to be able to access schools that are safe and supportive so that they could learn and thrive," she added.
Athlete Hima Das who had won one gold and two silver medals at the recently concluded Asian Games, had gone on record praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for solving issues plaguing the Northeast.
