The LinkedIn India-Labour Market Update June 2021 says that the hiring activity in that month was about 42 per cent higher than the pre-pandemic levels recorded in 2019.

This also marked a sharp increase from the 35 per cent higher hiring activity compared to a similar benchmark that was noted in May 2021.

Apparently, a sharp fall in hiring was noted in April 2021, which is perhaps attributed to the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic during that period.

The uptick recorded in May and June 2021 is arguably also due to the release of pent up hiring considering that companies were additionally prudent towards employing more people last year.

Furthermore, this report has also put light upon the fact that there is a lower competition for jobs as compared to a year ago. However, the interested individuals have also adopted a more aggressive approach towards applying for jobs now.

“Last year, we saw the applications per job double in the middle of 2020, during the height of global lockdowns. Right now, it is going in the opposite direction - average applications per job is 0.6x compared to the same month last year,” the report mentioned, as reported by the PTI.

It added, “Meanwhile, the applications per applicant has been slowly increasing and has reached 1.2x compared to last year.”

The LinkedIn report has also stressed upon the fact that upskilled professionals will subsequently have a greater number and variety of jobs available to choose from.
