In another shot in the arm for the government’s Make in India programme, reports state that Honda exported a two-wheeler every two seconds in the last three years. The company also achieved the unique milestone of becoming the first two-wheeler company to register exports of 20 lakh units from the country. This feat was achieved by the company in 17 years.

The company’s feat is all the more notable as the export of the first 10 lakh units took a period of 14 years, but the next 10 lakh units were exported in a matter of just three years. This sudden burst in exports also happens to coincide with the period where the NDA dispensation led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been making efforts to make India a manufacturing hub.

India occupies a central position in Honda’s future plans as the country is the single largest contributor to the global sales of two-wheelers. Furthermore, the company exports various models from India to 28 diverse global markets spreading from Asia-Oceania to Latin America, Europe and the Middle East. With a vociferous debate over the effectiveness of the Make in India programme and the jobs being generated, this piece of news only bolsters the government’s claims that ease of doing business in the country has definitely improved.
