A temple priest from Varanasi has dispatched a copy of Shri Ramcharitmanas, a Hindi book written in the Awadhi dialect which praises the deeds of Hindu deity Ram, to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee with the stated intention of purifying her mind, reports NDTV.

Ever since the campaigning for the recently-concluded Lok Sabha elections, ‘Jai Shri Ram’ has become a major opposition slogan against the Trinamool-led government of West Bengal, with instances of protesters directly using it in the presence of Banerjee.

On one occasion, Banerjee had reacted furiously to the slogan, getting out of her vehicle and terming the demonstrators criminals and outsiders.

Head priest of the Patalpuri Temple, Mahant Balak Das, stated that he hoped that reading the text would cause a change of heart in Banerjee.

"Her buddhi (mind) might get purified by reading the Ramayana. She is after all those who chant Jai Shri Ram and this shows her mindset. Her hatred towards Ram will one day be the reason for her fall," he said.

Interestingly, just recently BJP workers had decided to post 10,000 postcards with ‘Jai Shri Ram’ written on them to Banerjee’s residence in West Bengal.
