The ongoing tussle for power between Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and VK Sasikala for the Chief Minister’s chair in Tamil Nadu has seen major incidents taking place. While VK Sasikala, the current ADMK party supremo, has managed to get a majority of ADMK MLAs housed and safeguarded in resorts her opponents have also been at work. Over the last few hours a slew of measures were taken by them to counter Sasikala’s take over plans. Here are some of them.
Tries To Transfer Top Cop
It is said that the current CM O Panneerselvam issued verbal instructions to a top police officer about stopping the movement of MLAs in Sasikala’s camps to resorts. The police officer is said to have refused and even hung up the phone on the CM, according to social media reports. In a meeting with top bureaucrats the CM decided to transfer this officer today. Once again, while no confirmations are forthcoming it has been reported by some news portals that the order is awaiting governor’s consent.
Converts Poes Garden Into Memorial
Next on his list, Panneerselvam stated that he would get the government to convert Jayalalithaa’s Poes Garden Residence into a memorial for the late CM. This would mean Sasikala would be evicted from the Poes Garden residence. The sprawling bungalow has always been closely associated with the personal image of Jayalalithaa and Panneerselvam is attempting to deny Sasikala the legitimacy of ‘inheriting’ Jayalalithaa’s residence.
Meets Governor At Airport
As per protocol, Panneerselvam met Governor C Vidyasagar Rao at the airport and then proceeded to the Raj Bhavan, thereby pre-empting Sasikala’s supporters,
Gets Habeas Corpus Petition Filed
While Panneerselvam may not be behind it, a Habeas Corpus peition was filed accusing Sasikala of hiding legislators and to have them released.
Latest: Panneerselvam is set to meet the Tamil Nadu Governor at 5 PM today. Sasikala is also scheduled to meet the governor a little later at 7.30 PM.
