Hyperloop One, one of the firms working on a commercial implementation of the Hyperloop concept has proposed setting up of a Hyperloop track on the Bengaluru-Chennai route in order to reduce the travel time from the current five hours to 30 minutes. The company recently tweeted out a list of corridors it planned to invest in which featured five corridors in India, with Bengaluru-Chennai, Bengaluru-Thrivananthapuram, Mumbai-Bengaluru, Mumbai-Delhi and a port connectivity project.

Hyperloop has approached the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways with a letter of intent. However, engineers of the Indian Railways are skeptical of the project, stating that it could take up to a decade to take off due to procedural and bureaucratic delays from the government. The Hyperloop concept, being a new project would require approvals from multiple government bodies, mainly the Railway Standards Development Organisation (RDSO), and a new regulatory body would have to be set up.
