In Gesture Of Support For Renewable Energy, India Gifts 193 Solar Panels To UN Matching Number Of Member States

Highlighting its unwavering commitment to promote the acceptance and usage of solar and renewable energy across the world, India has gifted the United Nations (UN) 193 solar panels for each of its 193 member nations, reports The Economic Times.

The 193 solar panels will be installed at the roof of the UN headquarters, and be able to generate a peak power of 50 KW. The panels have been valued at approximately $1 million.

The development was made public by India's Permanent respresentative to the UN, Syed Akbaruddin who took to his official Twitter handle and shared, "India's promotion of use of solar energy @UN is now well known. 1 panel 4 every Member State - 193. India is a votary of equality too."

Hailing India's contribution to the fight against climate change and to promote renewable energy generation, the UN Under-Secretary-general for Management Jan Beagle thanked the nation for the installation of solar panels at the roof of the iconic UN headquarters. he called the gesture, "a strong message promoting #Innovation for action on climate change efficiency."
