In Less Than Nine Months Of 2020, India Records Highest Ceasefire Violations By Pakistan In Past 17 Years

Ceasefire violations by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan across the 778-kilometres-long Line of Control (LoC) in just the first nine months of 2020 have surged to the highest recorded in any year in the past 17 years, reports Economic Times.

From 1 January to 7 September, India has recorded a total of 3,186 ceasefire violations by Pakistani forces. In addition to these, there have also been 242 instances of cross-border firing along the 198-kilometres-long international border which Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) shares with Pakistan.

The numbers are way high compared to those recorded in 2017 and 2018. The year 2017 witnessed 971 ceasefire violations by Pakistan. This surged to 1,629 violations in 2018. However, in 2019, the year when the Parliament abrogated the Article 370, the ceasefire violations by Pakistan surged to 3,168. This figure has already been surpassed in the ongoing year.

On an average, India has been recording 350-400 ceasefire violations each month with Pakistan keeping up with the momentum ever since the tensions erupted between India and China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh region.
