Narendra Modi will be inaugurating two national highways and an inland waterway on Ganga in Varanasi, his parliamentary constituency today, News18 has reported.
The two highways have a combined length of 34 kilometres. Varanasi Ring Road Phase 1 has been constructed at a cost of Rs 759 crore and Babatpur-Varanasi Road on NH 56 has been constructed at a cost of Rs 812 crore.
Prior to his trip to Varanasi, the Prime Minister tweeted, “ With the inauguration of the Babatpur Airport highway, coming to Varanasi just got easier. Have a look at the photos of this state-of-the-art project. Travelling to and from Jaunpur, Sultanpur and Lucknow also gets easier with this project. A win-win for the people of Kashi”.
Flyovers at Harhua and a road over bridge at Tarna are likely to reduce the travel time from Varanasi to the airport. This will help the tourism sector in Varanasi.
The inland waterway terminal being inaugurated by the PM is the first of the four multi-modal terminals being constructed on river Ganga. The other three terminals are under construction at Sahibganj, Haldia and Gazipur. They are a part of the Jal Marg Vikas project executed by Inland Waterways Authority of India and funded by the World Bank.
