In Telangana, 113 Families Contribute 43 Per Cent Of Covid-19 Positive Cases - Most Linked To Tablighi Returnees

One of the curious features of novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in Telangana is that 113 families have contributed to 43 per cent of the total Covid-19 positive cases in the State.

Telangana Health Minister Etala Rajender told the media that an analysis by the State Government revealed that 44 families had infected 260 people in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) areas.

GHMC, with 540 Covid-19 positive cases, makes up over 50 per cent of the total 1,001 novel Coronavirus cases in Telangana. Twenty-six persons have lost their lives to the pandemic virus, while 231 have recovered so far.

Suryapet, Vikarabad and Gadwal are the other three areas which have turned problematic for the K Chandrasekhar Rao government in the State.

In Suryapet, 83 people were infected by 25 families, while 14 families left 38 people infected people in Vikarabad, In Gadwal, 45 persons got the infection after coming into contact with 30 families.

Rajender said Telangana Health Department officials had ensured that the infection was confined only to these families.

Most of these families had got infected as at least one of their family members had attended the Tablighi Jamaat Nizamuddin Aalami Markaz congregations last month in Delhi.

On 15 April, Telangana Minister K T Rama Rao, son of the Chief Minister, said that over 70 per cent of the Coronavirus cases were traced to the Tablighi congregations.
