Three army soldiers were injured when the alert troops foiled an infiltration bid by terrorists from across the line of control (LoC) in Uri sector, sources said.

Defence sources said alert troops challenged heavy armed terrorists who were trying to infiltrate in Uri sector on Saturday evening.

"An encounter ensued between the infiltrating terrorists and the army in which 3 soldiers were injured. The operation is still going on in the area," sources said.

Three soldiers injured belong to 12 Jat regiment. They have been shifted to hospital.

Earlier on 18 September, another major infiltration bid was foiled by the army in the same sector when a group of terrorists were forced to withdraw back after they were engaged in a sustained gunfight.

At the same time officials in the valley have stated that there has been significant drop in infiltration attempts on the LoC in North Kashmir this year especially from Uri, Nowgam, Tanghdar, Keran, Machil and Gurez sectors.

“The guard can’t be lowered as we don’t know when things can turn volatile. Our men are on constant vigil. It’s the strict vigil on the LoC which has prevented infiltration attempts,” said a senior army officer in north Kashmir.

Notably, a Pakistani national was among the two terrorists killed at the LoC in Poonch after an infiltration bid was foiled by the army on 30 August.
