In an unprecedented signal of bonhomie cutting across party lines, the Prime Ministers of India and Bangladesh with the Chief Ministers of Tripura and West Bengal inaugurated three projects in Bangladesh by means of a video conference.
The three projects consist of the 500 MW additional power supplied through the Baharampur-Bheramara link, Akhaura-Agartala rail link and the rehabilitation of the Kulaura-Shahbazpur section of Bangladesh railways.
PM Modi while speaking on the occasion lauded the deep co-operation between the neighboring countries and also spoke of his personal camaraderie with the Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He added that PM Hasina had a vision to restore connectivity between the two nations as they existed prior to 1965 and that with the execution of these projects both countries were taking concrete steps towards realizing that vision.
PM Modi announced that with the additional supply of 500 MW of power through the Baharampur-Bheramara link, India was now exporting 1.16 GW of power to Bangladesh. He also hailed the introduction of the Akhaura-Agartala rail link as providing one more option for cross-border connectivity and enabling closer people to people contact.
