India Bids Tearful Farewell To J&K Inspector Arshad Khan Martyred While Protecting CRPF Jawans In Anantnag Attack

Jammu and Kashmir police inspector Arshad Ahmed Khan injured in the recent Anantnag terrorist attack lost his life on Sunday, 16 June, reports India Today. Photos shared by Jammu and Kashmir police of Khan’s young son attending his wreath-laying ceremony generated a storm of sympathy on social media.

Khan was critically injured in chest by bullet-shot of the lone fidayeen who attacked CRPF men on law and order duty in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on 12 June. Khan immediately reached the site which was 400 m away, and cocked his service weapon aiming to take a shot at the terrorist in an exemplary act of courage.

Khan faced a barrage of bullets were fired by the terrorist as soon as he stepped out of his bullet-proof vehicle, one of which ricocheted of his gun and pierced his liver and duodenum. Khan was carried from SKIMS to AIIMS by air ambulance where he succumbed to his injuries.

Wreath laying ceremony of the Martyr Arshad Khan was held at District Police Lines Srinagar which was attended by Advisors to Hon'ble Governor Senior Civil,Army,CAPF and Police officers family members of the Martyr and colleagues. Governor Satyapal Malik also expressed sympathy and solidarity with family members of the deceased and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.

The 40-year-old martyr from Karanagar of Srinagar is survived by his wife and two kids aged four and one, along with a brother and his uncle who is battling cancer. An officer told India Today that he was helping the family with the cancer treatment and said that Arshad was an incredibly brave officer and good at heart.

Previously posted as SHO Brijbehara in South Kashmir's Anantnag district, Arshad had completed only 20 days as Saddar Police SHO Anantnag.
