Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani has talked up India’s potential to become a global green energy superpower, Reuters reports.

He further said that exports of clean energy from India could increase up to $500 billion over the coming two decades.

“If the last 20 years, we were known for India's emergence as an IT superpower, next 20 years, I believe, along with technology, will mark our emergence as a superpower in energy and life sciences,” the business magnate said at the Asia Economic Dialogue.

He added, “For the next two to three decades, India's dependence on coal and imported oil will continue. But, we must have a plan to eliminate that in the next two to three decades.”

Ambani explained that the focus should be on bringing the cost of green hydrogen down to a dollar per kilo. He stressed upon the importance of even transporting and disbursing the same at less than a dollar for every kilogram.

The billionaire added that India will have to follow ‘low carbon or no-carbon strategies’ in the near and medium term as such. Reliance Industries has already announced mega plans that will augment India's overall renewable energy capacity.
