IIndia’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval has said that for India to achieve its political, strategic and economic objectives, requires a stable and decisive government, Live Mint has reported.
Doval was delivering Sardar Patel Memorial lecture, Dream India 2030 - Avoiding the pitfalls. Information and Broadcasting ministry had organised the event.
Doval said that despite being a democracy India cannot afford to be a weak nation. He cited the example of Brazil which is doing well globally but internal political instability has hampered its growth.
He said that weakened democracy can make a country soft power and for the next few years, India cannot afford to be a soft power as it will have to take some hard decisions.
Doval emphasised on the need of a stable government and warned that a weak coalition will be bad for the country.
“Let there be no doubt about it, to achieve our national, political, economic and strategic objectives, India will need a strong, stable and decisive government in power, by their own right by the total mandate of the people. A fragmented polity can make it considerably difficult for India to realise its dreams,” Doval said.
He said that India cannot afford fragmented polity as it will create a weak government which will be unable to take hard decisions.
Doval, on the issue of Indian economy, warned against populist measures taking precedence over national requirements and said that hard measures are required in order to fiscally manage the country.
