A 25-years-old Sikh citizen from Pakistan Ravinder Singh, brother of Public News anchor Harmeet Singh, was shot dead by an unidentified man in Peshawar following which the government of India has raised serious concerns, reports Livemint.
India has called on the government of Pakistan to act and stop the targeted killing of members of the minority Sikh community. The development comes after some goons in Pakistan had attacked the holy Sikh pilgrimage site of Nankana Sahib and pelted stones at it.
“India calls upon the Government of Pakistan to stop prevaricating and take immediate action to apprehend and give exemplary punishment to the perpetrators of these heinous acts. The Government of Pakistan should act in defence of their own minorities instead of preaching sermons about it to other countries," the foreign ministry statement said.
Nankana Sahib is a revered site for Sikhs across the globe given it was built to mark the birthplace of the founder of Sikhism Guru Nanak Dev.
Following the events, the government of India has pressed on the counterpart government to give exemplary punishment to the perpetrators of the heinous attack and to defend its minorities.
