India will procure around 27-28 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses of Serum Institute of India's Covishield and Bharat Biotech's Covaxin in the month of October.
However, the Covid-19 vaccine doses that are to be procured will not include the shots from Zydus Cadila and Biological E, government sources were quoted by ANI as saying.
It should be noted that over 25 crore COVID-19 doses were procured for India's vaccination drive in September.
The development comes as the Central government plans to administer over 100 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses before mid-October.
According to the report, the Centre is expected to achieve the target of 100 crore doses administration between 10 October and 12 October.
So far, India has administered over 88.97 crore vaccine doses under its nationwide vaccination drive.
India has so far approved six Covid-19 vaccines for use in its vaccination drive. These vaccines include Serum Institute of India's Covishield, Bharat Biotech's Covaxin, Zydus Cadila's ZyCoV-D, Russian Sputnik V Covid vaccine, Moderna's mRNA vaccine and J&J's Covid vaccine.
