India will be looking to finalise the negotiations with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for a free trade pact next week following the third round of talks over this issue between the two sides.

As a build-up to that development, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held meetings with the chemicals, petrochemicals, aluminium and copper industry representatives, which is a part of the ongoing consultations with the concerned stakeholders.

Goyal informed the industry representatives about the overall importance of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in uplifting the economic and commercial relations with the UAE.

According to the official statement from the government, the CEPA will help create new jobs, provide wider social and economic opportunities, and benefit bilateral trade.

“The third round of India-UAE CEPA negotiations are scheduled to be held in New Delhi on December 6-10 wherein both sides aim to conclude the negotiations,” the Commerce Ministry confirmed in its official press release.

The Economic Times reports that India and UAE had begun the first round of negotiations on CEPA back in September this year.
