Talcher Fertiliser Plant In Odisha Revived By PM Modi, To Make India Self Sufficient In Urea 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (22 September), while laying foundation stone of India's first coal gasification-based fertiliser plant with pet coke blending, said that the revived Talcher Fertiliser Plant would produce enough urea using coal, for the country to be self-sufficient, reports ANI.

The project uses a new technology of coal gasification to produce urea. Talcher plant will make the country self-sufficient and will set the nation free from dependence on the export of urea from other countries.

The project will cost Rs 13,000 crore and is touted to generate employment for 4,500 people, ANI quoted the PM as saying.

Gas Authority of India Limited (India) announced the commencement of India's first coal gasification-based fertiliser plant with pet coke blending.

The plant is touted to make the Government of India's vision of making the country self-sufficient in the production of fertilisers a reality.

Developed by Talcher Fertilisers (TFL), a joint venture company of GAIL (India) (GAIL), Coal India (CIL), Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilisers (RCFL) and Fertiliser Corporation of India (FCIL), the fertiliser plant is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs. 13,000 crore.

Targeted to be commissioned by 2022, the plan will have an output of 1.27 Million Metric Tonnes Per Annum (MMTPA) of urea using pet coke blending. The fertiliser plant is located in Talcher in Angul district of Odisha, will also produce 100 Tonnes Per Day (TPD) of sulphur flakes as a saleable byproduct.

The coal gasification-based Ammonia-Urea Complex being set up at Talcher will have a design capacity of 2,200 Tonnes Per Day (TPD) of ammonia and 3,850 TPD of urea.
