Indian couple Prashant and Smita Basarur were stabbed by an immigrant near Munich. Unfortunately, Prashant has expired. Smita is stable. We are facilitating the travel of Prashant's brother to Germany. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. /1

Swaraj stated that the government is helping Prashant’s brother travel to Germany. She also mentioned that she has asked the Indian mission in Munich to look after the two children of the couple.
Germany and other Western European countries have been witnessing a surge in crime over the last several years, which some say is linked to their lax immigration policies.
After the Syria crisis of 2015, which saw upwards of a million migrants from mostly Muslim countries make their way into Europe, Germany, which took the maximum number of such migrants in, saw an uptick in street crime, terror attacks, and sexual assault cases against women.
