India’s War Room Against National Disasters: ISRO To Lend A Helping Hand To MHA

Ministry of Home Affairs and India's space agency, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) have entered into a MoU for setting up of a state-of-the-art Integrated Control Room for Emergency Response (ICR-ER) in the Home Ministry reports The Times of India.

ISRO will technically support MHA for setting up of proposed ICR-ER, whereas, the project will be executed under the overall supervision of MHA, said the ministry in a press release.

The ICR-ER will provide impetus to Disaster Management as well as Internal Security.

The Control Room is expected to be functioning in eighteen months. It will address the requirement of receipt of information on near real-time basis, strategic level monitoring, situation awareness, command and control, preparedness and response in several internal security situations and disaster-related emergencies, as explained in the press release.

Joint Secretary for Disaster Management Sanjeev Kumar Jindal, on behalf of MHA and Dr P.V.N Rao, Deputy Director, National Remote Sensing Centre, ISRO signed the MoU.
