Public utility company GMR Group, which operates the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad, will be investing over Rs 519.52 crore in a metro rail link project which will ensure connectivity across the city by 2024.

The Telangana state government has proposed this project worth about Rs 5000 crore and is anticipated to cover a range of 31 kilometers in total, Economic Times reports.

“The envisaged project cost of metro line would be around Rs. 5000 crore of which HIAL's contribution would be in the range of Rs. 500 Crores (10 per cent of the project cost) which is equivalent to the estimated cost of metro connectivity within the airport precinct,” the GMR Hyderabad International Airport’s consultation paper read.

This particular metro link project will ensure sufficient accessibility for people from different areas of Hyderabad by extending this initiative to the said international airport in the city.

Meanwhile, the KCR Chandrashekhar Rao-led state government in Telangana has already formed a Special Purpose Vehicle -- Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) in order to carry out the development, construction, operations and the overall management of the metro line.
