United States based technology behemoth Intel has partnered with Reliance Jio and Bharti Aitel, both of whom are the major telecom service providers in India, to help them in accelerating the roll out of their 5G networks.
Bharti Airtel is working with Intel for 5G network development by leveraging the Virtualized Radio Access Network (vRAN) and Open-RAN (O-RAN) technologies.
Airtel will deploy Intel’s 3rd-generation Xeon Scalable processors, FPGAs, and eASICS, and Ethernet 800 series across its network to build a foundation for rolling out wide-scale 5G, mobile edge computing (MEC) and network slicing, reports Economic Times.
Meanwhile, the US tech giant is also collaborating with Airtel's rival Jio to help it in making the transition from 4G to 5G. Intel will help Jio in its 5G network development, including in the areas of 5G radio, core, cloud, edge, and artificial intelligence.
Intel's engineering and business unit teams are working closely with Reliance Jio for development of 5G network in the aforementioned areas.
It should be noted that both Airtel and Jio have started the trials of the 5G trial spectrum allotted to them by the Department of Communications.
