Interception Of 9,000 Phone-Calls And 500 E-Mails A Month: A 2013 RTI Reveals ‘Snooping Raj’ Under UPA 

A reply to RTI query in 2013 has revealed that almost 9,000 orders for interception of phones and 500 emails were issued every month during the UPA rule, reports The Times of India.

"On an average, between 7,500 to 9,000 orders for intercept of telephones are issued by the central government every month. On an average between 300 to 500 orders for interception of emails are issued by central government per month" TOI quoted the RTI reply.

"Isn't it strange who approved the procedure put in place the system is talking about the snooping Raj", TOI quoted an MHA official as saying.

"As many as 9000 phones & 500 emails were tapped monthly in UPA2, a 2013-RTI reveals That's 300 phones & 20 emails tapped- every single day. With its history of emergency & post office amendment bill, Congress should NOT be hypocritical about steps to ensure national security." Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, tweeted.
