A Delhi court on Thursday extended the judicial custody of former Finance Minister P Chidambaram till 17 October. The CBI had arrested the senior Congress leader on 21 August in connection with the INX Media case.
The former union minister and his son Karti Chidambaram were named in the INX Media case by Peter and Indrani Mukerjea, who are currently in a Mumbai jail in connection with the murder of Indrani's daughter Sheena Bora.
The Enforcement Directorate had also filed a money laundering case against Chidambaram in 2017.
Earlier today (3 October), Chidambaram had moved the Supreme Court challenging the 30 September verdict of Delhi High Court that dismissed his plea for regular bail in the case. His lawyer Kapil Sibal had made a mention before SC Justice NV Ramana for urgent listing of the matter. However, Justice Ramana stated that CJI Ranjan Gogoi will take a call on urgent listing and forwarded the file to him, reports LiveLaw.
The Delhi HC on Monday (30 September) had rejected the bail application of Chidambaram on the grounds that as a former minister and a senior bar member, he can influence the witnesses in the case.
