Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will be offering special Navratri meals for those observing the ‘vrat’ during the nine-day Hindu festival, ANI has reported. The special ‘vrat ka khana’ will be available at specified stations on Indian Railways network.

The meal is currently available at Nagpur, Ambala, Jaipur, Itarsi, Jhansi, Nasik, Ratlam, Mathura, Nizamuddin and Lucknow stations. The special menu offered includes Navratri Thalis, Sabudana Khichdi, Lassi, Fruit Chats, can be pre-ordered through IRCTC’S e-catering website or the ‘Food-on-Track’ app.

The orders can be made two hours before the journey provided the passenger has a valid passenger name record (PNR) number. Passengers can either pay on delivery or use the pre-pay option.

This development comes after Indian Railways was reported to have announced its decision to serve only vegetarian food on 2 October to mark Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday, but withdrew it after facing flack.
