Islamist student organisation Campus Front of India seems to be getting aggressive and assertive in coastal States of Kerala and Karnataka, particularly in college campuses. The latest aggression by the CFI is its alleged role in the murder of a Students Federation of India (SFI) activist at Kochi’s Maharajah college.

A second-year Chemistry branch graduate of the college, Abhimanyu, was allegedly stabbed to death in the wee hours of this morning (2 July) over a dispute on posters welcoming freshers to the college. Another student, identified in the report as Arjun, has been seriously injured and is undergoing treatment at Ernakulam Medical College Hospital.

Three activists of the Islamist outfit have been taken into custody.

Malayalam daily Mathrubhumi reported SFI Kerala secretary Sachin Dev alleging moves to overthrow his federation from the campus. He said over 20 CFI activists from the campus had reached the spot where the two students were attacked and are behind the murder.

Last week, CFI staged a protest in front of St Agnes College in Mangaluru demanding that the college not impose its policy on uniform on Muslim girls. The nine-year-old CFI, whose objective is to encourage student activism, has got aggressive with its activism since the beginning of this academic year.
