During discussions between the Indian and Israeli delegations at the Cannes film festival yesterday (16 May), the latter suggested that India be chosen as the ‘focus country’ for the upcoming Jerusalem Film Festival in 2019, as per a release by the Press Information Bureau.
Information and Broadcasting Secretary Amit Khare led the Indian delegation, which presented India as a welcoming destination for filming that was trying to make bureaucratic processes easier for filmmakers and was also serious about cracking down on piracy.
During their meeting with the Israeli delegation, which was headed by Director of Film Department and Council, Ministry of Culture and Sports, Israel Eti Cohen, the Indian delegation was also told about the massive appreciation in the Jewish nation for the movie Bollywood movie Newton.
The Israelis also put forward the idea of producing concept based content in India, with a special emphasis on local and small-budget movie-making.
Apart from the Israeli delegation, the Indian delegation also met with a number of other delegations at Cannes from across the world, including from countries such as Taiwan, Costa Rica, Canada, Sweden and others.
