ISRO To Launch New Radar Imaging Satellite By May End To Further Improve India’s Image Reconnaissance Abilities

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is planning to launch its radar imaging satellite RISAT-2BR1 by the end of the May using one one of the variants of the Polar Satellite Launching Vehicle (PSLV), Economic Times has reported.

The report cited ISRO sources as saying that the RISAT-2BR1 satellite is expected to be launched onboard the PSLV rocket on 22 May.

According to the report, the rocket carrying the satellite is designated as PSLV-C46 as per the numbering system and will be launched from the first launch pad at Sri Harikota.

The to-be-deployed RISAT-2BR1 satellite will use enhanced synthetic aperture radar (SAR) to provide all-weather surveillance and observation and will further improve India's imaging reconnaissance abilities, News18 has reported.

After the launch of RISAT-2BR1, ISRO has other projects in the pipeline including the launch of Cartosat-3 cartography satellite. Besides, the Indian space agency will also launch more defence satellites some time in July or August with its new rocket Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV).
