The Government of Andhra Pradesh is set to give away plots of land for housing to Imams working at mosques under a scheme called 'House plots to the Imams' launched by state's Chief Minister (CM) YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, reports Asian News International (ANI).

Under the scheme, as many as 5,000 imams with white ration cards serving at lesser income mosques will receive the benefits. The white ration card serves as a proof of one's belonging to a Below Poverty Line (BPL) family.

Following the launch of the scheme, the Andhra Pradesh State Waqf Board has written to all the imams from mosques in the lesser income bracket to avail the benefit by applying with their ration cards and Aadhaar cards.

The scheme however bars imams who either already have a house or the ones who hail from some state other than the state of Andhra Pradesh to avail the scheme.
