The security forces gunned down three Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists in an encounter in the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K)'s Pulwama district on Sunday (12 January), reports Hindustan Times.

The encounter broke out after the terrorists hidden in a house opened fire on a joint team of police, Indian Army, and paramilitary forces who were on a search operation in Tral region's Gulshanpora village.

In retaliatory action, forces brought down two terrorists, while gunning down the third one during an attempt to flee the scene. The forces also seized a host of weaponry including AK-47 rifles, UGBL launcher, grenade, and detonators.

“They opened fire. The forces retaliated, killing two terrorists. The third militant was killed in the crossfire when he tried to flee the scene. We have also seized arms and ammunition, including AK 47 rifles, UGBL launcher, grenade and detonators, from the location,” added Inspector General of Police (Kashmir) Vijay Kumar.

One of the killed terrorists has been identified as Umer Fayaz Lone who has been involved in a number of police and civilians killings over the past few years. He was also known to be involved in recruitment of new terrorists.
