Jet Airways Decides Against 25 Per Cent Salary Cut Following Employee Protests 

The Jet Airways has decided against a 25 per cent salary cut for its non-management staff, following protests by its employees including pilots and commanders, Economic Times has reported.

The airline also credited the salaries for July on Friday (3 August), which were withheld as the management was confident of convincing everyone to take a cut. The report claimed that the airline’s senior management has already taken a salary cut.

It has been claimed that the airline’s chairman Naresh Goyal felt that its image had been marred following media reports about the planned pay cut. He in a meeting on Friday thus asked his employees to help him out.

The meeting appears to have gone well as the Jet pilots’ association - National Aviators Guild (NAG) issued a statement, which assured their support in helping the airline maintain its position as the nation’s premier carrier. The statement also expressed confidence in the airline’s short and long-term sustainability.

The airline had conveyed in the past week about the planned pay cut between 5 per cent and 25 per cent, to reduce costs aimed at mitigating a supposed financial crisis which the airline has been going through.

This bad financial health has been blamed on rising crude prices and the capture of market share by Indigo Airlines. Jet Airways had incurred a loss of about Rs 1,045 crore for the January-March quarter in 2018.
