A woman named Pooja Singh from Sindri, Dhanbad levelled allegations against her husband and in-laws of forcing her to convert to Islam, harassment and assault over being a Hindu, reports Jagran.

The woman said that she married Kamran Ahmad Khan in July 2013 and a condition was put in writing that she would be free to follow her Hindu faith and rituals and will not be pressurised into converting to Islam.

She claimed that after marriage, her husband went to Delhi while she stayed back in Sindri. Two months after marriage, her father-in-law Ali Ahmad Khan and wife of husband’s brother Sazia Imran Khan started harassing her over being a Hindu.

She alleged that they ordered her to follow Islam as she was a Muslim and end the ‘drama’ of Hinduism. On 20 June 2017, the victim alleged that as she was going to do the pooja, the in-laws threw away the materials. When she informed her husband of the same, he also asked her to follow the orders of the in-laws.

Later, the victim says, she was beaten up, her jewellery was taken away and she was thrown out of the house. On 1 September 2019 when she was at her parents’ house, the victim alleges that her husband and father-in-law came and started hurling abuses and physical fight. They told victim that if she wants a married life she would have to convert to Islam.

The victim then went to court and filed an FIR against her husband, father-in-law and wife of husband’s brother. The case shall be heard on Wednesday, informed her lawyer Subodh Kumar.
