Merely days after the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) administration led by Lieutenant Governor G C Murmu had lifted the Public Safety Act (PSA) imposed against former chief minister (CM) Omar Abdullah, the administration on Monday (30 March) revoked the PSA against 31 other politicians and activists from the Kashmir Valley, reports Times of India.

The leaders had been under detention since the Parliament had scrapped the provisions of the contentious Article 370 of the Constitution and bifurcated the erstwhile State into two separate Union territories (UTs) on 5-6 August last year.

Earlier in the month, the administration had revoked the PSA against Omar's father and also a former CM Farooq Abdullah. However, it should be noted that another former CM and the chief of Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti continue to be detained by the administration under PSA.

In total, over 380 individuals continue to be under detention in different jails across J&k to ensure normalcy and peace in the Valley. These include J&K Bar Association's president Mian Abdul Qayoom and Traders Association president Yaseen Khan.
