In an major development, the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Police had declared the South Kashmir's terrorism hit Tral area free of any Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist, which marks a first such instance in over three decades since 1989, reports Indian Today.

“After today’s successful ops, no presence of HM terrorist in Tral area. It has happened for first time since 1989,” said Vijay Kumar, IGP J&K Police.

It should be duly noted that South Kashmir's Tral is the home town of Hizbul Mujahideen's poster boy and home-grown terrorist commander Burhan Wani whose elimination by the security forces in an encounter had sparked much tension and unrest on the ground.

The development comes as the security forces in the valley comprising of Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force and J&K Police have been on a spree to eliminate terrorists operating in the region to restore peace, law and order.

In 2020 alone, the security forces have gunned down over 100 terrorists. Furthermore, the operations by the security forces have gathered much steam in the ongoing month as they have already eliminated more than 35 terrorists in June so far in around a dozen encounters.
