Two stone pelters have been arrested and six others detained in Kashmir’s Anantnag district for killing a truck driver by pelting stones at his vehicles during a ‘protest’ in Bhijbhera on Sunday (26 August), Press Trust of India reported.
As confirmed by the Jammu and Kashmir police, the stone pelters mistook the truck for a security forces’ vehicle and attacked it. One of the stones pierced the windshield of the truck and hit the driver on his head.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital and later referred to Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences at Soura but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. The driver has been identified as Noor Mohammed Dar.
The police then swung into action and identified, arrested the stone pelters responsible for the crime. They have been booked for murder. The J&K police also informed that a few days ago, a group of stone pleters had seriously injured a girl in Srinagar.
