Major US media outfits have declared that President-elect Joe Biden has edged ahead and won the race of Arizona and thus bagged the 11 electoral votes associated with the state, PTI reports.

Arizona is termed to be a Republican stronghold but Biden has reportedly managed to flip the results in his favour and further strengthened his lead over incumbent President Donald Trump.

The Democrat candidate now leads 290-217 over his Republican rival, though; Trump is yet to concede defeat. Biden has emerged victorious in Arizona by 11,000 votes, which translate to around 0.3 percentage points. The New York Times has reported that the former vice-president is the first Democrat candidate to carry the state since Bill Clinton defeated Bob Dole in the 1996 presidential elections.

NBC News has revealed that the contest for Arizona was called on the ninth day of counting since the Election Day. Now, North Carolina and Georgia are the only states whose results have not been called as the contest over there is still deemed to be “too close”. However, President Trump has already made his intentions clear of challenging the results of the elections in the Supreme Court of the United States.
