The United States (US) based John Hopkins University has disassociated itself from a controversial study which had claimed under its insignia that as many as 30 to 40 crore Indian could end up getting infected by Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), reports ANI.

The study which had been christened 'COVID-19 for India Updates' had gone viral on social media on 24 March. The report carried logos of John Hopkins University and US based research organisation Centre For Disease Dynamics, Economics and Policy (CDDEP).

The varsity has asserted that the use of its logo on the said contentious report was unauthorised. The development was made public by the Government of India's Public Information Bureau.

The report has claimed that at its peak, by April or May 2020, the number of confirmed cases could reach 10 crore Indians. Also that without any interventions, the total count of infected Indians could surge upto as high as 30 to 40 crore.

Meanwhile, it should be noted that so far the CDDEP has remained silent on the University's claim that its logo's usage on the study was unauthorised.
