Karti Chidambaram the son of senior Congress leader P Chidambaram and one of the main accused in the Aircel-Maxis case has claimed that he was given a Lok Sabha ticket by the Congress thanks to his ‘hard work’, Times of India has reported.

He also denied the charges that he received a ticket for the Sivaganag constituency because of his father. He further said that false cases were being filed against his father for criticising the centre’s policies.

Karti Chidambaram was also heard saying that the alliance would retain its Sivaganga seat this time round via his victory.

He was addressing a meeting at a DMK office in Pudukottai.

It was earlier reported that objections were being raised within the Congress party over the candidature of Karti Chidambaram.

The incumbent Lok Sabha MP from the constituency and senior Congress leader Sudarsana Natchiappan has protested against Karti’s candidature by asserting that his candidature will damage the party’s image and lead to various future issues.

Natchiappan who was an Union Minister during the UPA era, has also alleged that Karti tried to hamper him in various ways.
