A nine-year-old girl was brutally gang-raped and murdered by five men, including her own step-brother, allegedly. According to the Jammy & Kashmir police, the incident occurred in the state’s Baramulla district, and one of the main plotters of this tragedy is the step-mother of the child.
After a missing report was filed by her father on 23 August who resides in Uri, the Superintendent of Police (SP) for Barmaullah, Imtiaz Hussain Mir, informed the press that the girl’s body was found in a decomposed state on Sunday (2 September) in a nearby forest.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted to investigate the case, which will be handled by the Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO). Speaking to PTI, Mir said, "The SIT interrogated the suspects and during sustained questioning of the step-mother of the deceased, a bone chilling and horrible account of murder and rape of the nine-year-old child came to light."
The police also said that a grudge held by the girl’s step-mother against her husband’s second wife and her children provoked her to take the step. During interrogation, she revealed that her husband would mostly spend time with his second wife and the girl in question was his favourite child.
Armed with a sharp knife, she was accompanied by her 14-year-old son and his friends, and the crime happened in the presence of the woman. All the accused took turns to rape her, and thereafter, the step-mother strangulated her, Mir said.
As reported by News 18, Mir continued saying, "While the step-mother strangulated her, the step-brother hit her head with an axe. Another accused gouged out her eyes with a sharp knife and then sprinkled acid on her body. Physical condition and preliminary forensic analysis of the body substantiated all these facts".
The police has identified the accused as girl’s stepmother Fahmeeda, stepbrother Sahil, his two friends - Kaisar Ahmad (19) and Aadil Ahmad (14) - and Naseer Ahmad Khan (28). All five have been arrested and the weapons used have been recovered.
