Church.
Church.

With the church in Kerala coming under scrutiny over alleged cases of sexual abuses, the suicide of a woman three years ago has now begun to hog the limelight. Though the suicide is not related to any sexual abuse, facts emerging now reveal that it might have to do with an irresponsible priest leaking the woman’s confession.

The case relates to Lilly Shinu’s suicide in Kerala’s Pathanamthitta. Lilly’s sister Lailamma George now says that Lilly committed suicide after the priest of Ayroor’s St John’s Salem Orthodox Church spilled details of her confession to another woman. The confession related to the happenings when Lilly studied in college.

Lilly took the extreme step, after the woman spilt details of her confession in front of a group of people, The News Minute has reported.

The priest reportedly nursed a grudge against Lily’s husband as he had reported to the higher authority or “Thirumeni” that the priest had rubbed off the words “Renovative Founder” from the tomb of a senior priest. A probe by the police did not lead to anything concrete but a friend of Lilly’s husband now says he would file a fresh case.
