The Phogat Khap in Haryana's Dadri district, whose influence spans over 19 villages, has issued instructions that wedding ceremonies will no more allow consumption of liquor, while also promulgating a ban on the DJs (disc jockeys) post 10 pm, reports the Hindustan Times.

Further, the Khap has also banned celebratory firing in marriage functions along with the banning of conducting a ritual called 'Kaaj' which is performed by most people in Haryana when an elderly member dies of natural reasons. The Khap called it a wastage of money.

The Khap also decreed that all marriages in the villages must be solemnised by 10 pm. Explaining the rationale behind the decisions, Panchayat member Balwant Singh explained, "The decision of culminating the wedding ceremonies by 10 pm has been taken as in late-night functions, baraatis consume liquor and tend to indulge in fights. Then they drive back home under the influence of alcohol, raising the possibility of fatal accidents."

Meanwhile, justifying the rationale behind banning of DJs in the marriages, Singh shared that the loud music disturbs the sleep of cows and buffaloes impacting the milk-yielding capabilities. He also added, "Many people dance under the influence of alcohol and misbehave with women."
